Yoga 4 the Homeless December 23, 2015

Hi Rose,

My name is Andrew Beinbrink. I’m a local San Diegan and CEO of SportsForce and founder of Yoga 4 Homeless. Please review or share the press release with the appropriate person on your team.

I recently decided to take on a passion project to help with San Diego’s growing homeless epidemic called Yoga 4 Homeless. The Yoga 4 Homeless mission is a feel good story that I’m sure would be a perfect fit for your holiday coverage.

We were featured on the FOX 5 TV Morning News segment last Tuesday:
Watch the San Diego Yoga 4 Homeless Donation Drive News Segment
Please review press release below & attached.

We just launched our program after our Holiday charity party on Saturday December 19th.

Our mission is to improve the physical, mental and spiritual health of the homeless community in San Diego through the art of Yoga.

The interest in our very first Yoga mat and clothes donation and yoga viral video challenge has been overwhelming. The donation drive flyer continues to generate buzz, thanks to distribution via our local yoga partners at Lululemon stores and local yoga studios partners like YogaSix, Trilogy, Buddhi, Mt. Yoga, Sculpt Fusion and a handful of other locations.

Please let me know the level of interest and I’d be happy to assist in any way I can.

Thanks,
Andrew Beinbrink

SAN DIEGO’S YOGA 4 HOMELESS LAUNCHES YOGA MAT DONATION DRIVE & GOFUNDME CAMPAIGN TO SERVE LOCAL HOMELESS MEN, WOMEN, CHILDREN
Local Group Rallies The Community To Donate As Many Yoga Mats, Blankets, Clothes And Shoes To The Local Homeless As Possible For The Cold Winter

For Immediate Release: San Diego, California (December 23, 2015):

Yoga 4 Homeless is a newly-formed group in San Diego focused on building a community of dynamic and action-oriented leaders committed to positive change at the local level and beyond. The group was founded by SportsForce CEO and former professional baseball player, Andrew Beinbrink.

Yoga 4 Homeless held its inaugural holiday party to collect donations of yoga mats, blankets, jackets and shoes at the legendary Bird’s Surf Shed last Saturday with overwhelming support.

The local business community and yoga community really stepped up to support the Yoga 4 Homeless mission. Local yoga studios like YogaSix, Trilogy, Buddhi, Mt. Yoga and handful of other studios supported the cause with yoga mat donations, gift certificates and more. Local corporate supporters included Lululemon, Prana, MOVMT, Perfect Bar, Suja Juices, Broadway Athletics and Graced by Grit.

For its inaugural event, Yoga 4 Homeless has chosen the San Diego Rescue Mission as their beneficiary for donated yoga mats, blankets, jackets and shoes. “We wanted to choose a local charity that has been serving the homeless community for a very long time and was aligned with our mission to help provide, educate and rehabilitate the homeless in San Diego and beyond. We believe yoga has the power to heal,” said Beinbrink.

The near term goal for the Yoga 4 Homeless mission is to donate 1,000 yoga mats to the San Diego homeless community by February 1st and raise the funds to start our initial program in San Diego with our community shelter partner.

Beinbrink first thought of the idea in the fall when he walked by a homeless man sleeping with his dog on the cold concrete and resolved then and there that no person in the world should have to sleep on concrete, dirt or cardboard. He went to his house and grabbed his blue yoga mat and gave it to him as small act of kindness.

This gesture morphed into something greater, and the Yoga 4 Homeless campaign continues to garner an overwhelming response from the local yoga community.

“The vision of the Yoga 4 Homeless campaign is to help provide yoga to the homeless men, women and children locally first and then globally. We believe yoga should be accessible to everyone and aim to make yoga accessible to the homeless. It all starts with a yoga mat,” said Beinbrink.

“With the holidays around the corner and so many Holiday and New Year's parties, we wanted to create something fun and exciting for our community to feel good about and to give back,” said Beinbrink. “After speaking with local charity organizations we realized there was an incredible need to support the homeless men, women and children of San Diego, especially with weather temperatures dropping and forecasters calling for a cold wet "El Nino" winter.”

The inaugural event took place at the legendary Bird’s Surf Shed (1091 West Morena Blvd., San Diego, CA 92110) in San Diego’s Bay Park area this Saturday. The site will also remain a donation drop-off location throughout the rest of the year, along with select studios around the county.

About Yoga 4 Homeless:  Yoga 4 Homeless is focused on building a community of dynamic, positive, soulful and action oriented leaders committed to making positive changes on a local level and beyond.
