Las Vegas, NV —The Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) and Nevada JobConnect, in conjunction with Workforce Connections are hosting a free construction job fair March 3, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cashman Center in Las Vegas.

The goal of the event is to connect experienced tradespeople with employers who are hiring in the construction industry, said Don Soderberg, DETR director. “We are hearing from some construction companies that there is a shortage of workers, as many left the state in the wake of the recession,” Soderberg said. “DETR, JobConnect and Workforce Connections are extremely committed to addressing the workforce needs of Nevada’s employers and to helping jobseekers achieve their career goals. This hiring event is in response to a specific need in our state.”

Nearly 30 employers in the construction industry have signed up to provide on-site interviews during the event.

DETR is still accepting employers who are interested in having a booth at the job fair, free of charge. The construction industry was the hardest hit during the recession, losing close to 100,000 jobs. However, the construction industry is on the mend and is projected to add 6,700 jobs in 2014, with an additional 7,700 jobs in 2015, 8,600 jobs in 2016 and 9,800 jobs in 2017.

“This is a great opportunity for construction companies to access a large pool of candidates with a variety of skills,” Soderberg said. “Additionally, this provides jobseekers the chance to meet with employers to learn more about the skills they are looking for. Nevada JobConnect and Workforce Connections offer access to a number of training programs that will assist workers interested in pursuing careers in construction.”
