‘Statistics show Las Vegas housing beginning recovery,’ is the title of a June 28, 2014 article of the Las Vegas Review Journal that was written by Heidi Kasama, President of the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors. For many years home owners watched helplessly as the values of their greatest assets steadily declined and shortly thereafter the once airborne but now fragile housing bubble burst. As a result, thousands of licensed Realtors were forced to get second jobs and many abandoned the realty profession. However there are a few Realtors who remained focused, poised and continued to succeed where thousands of others miserably failed. Gady Medrano is a top Las Vegas Realtor who has been proudly welcoming owners into their new homes and offices since 2010. Her positive reputation and consistent success as a Las Vegas Realtor grabbed the attention of reality television producers from ‘Flipping Vegas’. And as the popular cliché says, ‘the rest is history.’ During a break between filming takes, Gady Medrano talked to Andre’ Haynes about bringing her endeavors to life.

Why did you become a Realtor?

The desire to work in real estate came from my father. He was a real estate investor. When I was a kid, he would pick me up from school and on the way home we would often stop at a flooring company or a Home Depot style store to buy materials for a flip or rental property. I would mostly choose the flooring, paint colors, basically the whole design. It was fun for me. I bonded with my father and immediately developed a love for real estate.

gady-medranoWho gave you the best advice in your career and what was it?

I would have to also say my father. He was my very first teacher of real estate. His knowledge was extensive and I learned a lot from him. He passed away from cancer a couple years ago. However, his advice and wisdom stays with me. I am surprised how much of his advice I am actually able to retain and put into practice. He believed in hard work and not taking no for an answer. He was also a dreamer and always taught me to dream big.

When did you feel like you had become a success?

I cannot recall having a moment like that. I feel very grateful and blessed for the success that I have had. However, I feel I have so much more ahead of me. I have exciting projects that I am working on and I hope to never stop thriving to achieve new and interesting goals.

Where is your favorite neighborhood to sell homes?

I do not have a favorite neighborhood. I have sold homes in all areas of Las Vegas and I find all areas to be very unique. I have also sold various types of properties such as houses, high-rise condos (on and off the strip), du-plexes, quad-plexes, commercial property and everything else in between. I have worked in real estate for over a decade. Every client and property is different and that is actually one of the things that I love about working in real estate.

How did you parlay being a Realtor into becoming a star on A&E's hit television show "Flipping Vegas"?

I think it was my work experience that helped me with the television show. I had already flipped my own property and assisted others with flipping theirs before I ever got on the show. It also helped me with being on camera. When they would point the camera at me, I felt like I needed to know what I was talking about and articulate my point of view. That is, when I was not caught on camera running scared out of a mouse infested house (“Pink Door / Mouse House” S1 E8). In the end I worked really hard to do my job well. I think that came across and really resonated with viewers.

Share some advice with aspiring Realtors?

When you get licensed, make sure the first brokerage that you choose to work at is actually setting you up for success. The first year or two is very important in shaping you into becoming a great real estate professional. Make sure they have good training programs and a plan to help you achieve your goals. Also, make sure you always put your clients’ needs above your own. Reputation is the key to a long and successful career. You want to have a solid reputation of integrity in all your business dealings.

What is your next endeavor?

I have a lot of big exciting projects coming up in the near future. I am super excited and I wish I could share full details at this time, but I cannot. I just urge fans of the show and those that follow my work and career to stay tuned. They will not be disappointed.

I can, however, discuss one project I am very proud of. That is my real estate book. I have been working on it for some time. It is a great book for both the first time home buyers and seasoned real estate investors. I have always wanted to be an author and have a book in Barnes & Noble stores nationwide. I am hopeful that when this book is complete (2015) it will happen. That will be a wonderful day for me.
